What lies beneath the veneer of the fast-growing economics of China? In the midst of a vast and lifeless artificial landscape – a Chinese countryside covered in imported plastic, stands a girl to whom this scenery is all she ever knows. Going to school is her only dream, and yet her father's promise to make it happen has yet to come to pass. Even within such a profoundly isolating and toxic atmosphere, trust, hope and humanity still sustains in the defiantly optimistic 11-year-old Yi-Jie. Will she be able to escape the chains cast by her upbringing?
